Chapter 10 - A New Horizon

Six months later, the autumn chill had given way to the bright, crisp rebirth of a Washington spring.

I stood on the balcony of my new apartment—a sleek, minimalist penthouse overlooking the Potomac River, far away from the manicured lawns and fake hydrangeas of the Fairfax suburbs. The morning sun washed over the water in shimmering ribbons of gold and silver.

My tactical jacket hung neatly in the hallway closet, its hidden compartment empty. I didn't need the subcutaneous beacon anymore. The ghosts of my past had been laid to rest, buried beneath federal indictments and the quiet, steady rhythm of a life reclaimed on my own terms.

My phone buzzed on the glass patio table. I glanced down at the screen.

It was an encrypted message from Director Vance: New deployment orders on my desk tomorrow morning, Agent Sterling. Take the rest of the week off. You’ve earned it.

I smiled, locking the screen and slipping the phone into my pocket.

May you like

I took a deep breath of the fresh morning air, feeling the effortless strength in my core, the absolute clarity in my mind, and the unburdened lightness of a future that belonged entirely to me.

I wasn't the ghost anymore. I was the author of my own story. And for the first time in my life, the page ahead was wide open.
