Chapter 8 - The Cornered Predator

Even in defeat, a desperate man will always try to claw his way back into relevance.

Six months after the annulment, my corporate security team flagged an unusual spike in data exfiltration attempts targeting our proprietary design archives. Tracing the digital footprint led to a shocking realization: Ryan, working with a shady shell company, had attempted to steal confidential client portfolios to sell to a foreign competitor in hopes of staging a pathetic comeback.

He hadn't learned a single thing.

Two days later, news outlets broadcasted footage of Ryan being led out of a dingy suburban motel in handcuffs, wearing a faded gray hoodie, looking nothing like the handsome, arrogant groom who had once laughed over wedding cake frosting.

His parents couldn't bail him out this time. Charles had suffered a mild stroke shortly after the settlement, and their mansion had already been auctioned off by the bank. The Caldwell name, once a symbol of elite privilege, was now a cautionary tale whispered in corporate boardrooms across the city.
