Chapter 10 - The Horizon Unbound

Later that afternoon, high above the bustling streets of Midtown Manhattan, the glass-walled boardroom of Global Continental Aviation was pin-drop silent.
Twenty-four senior executives, regional vice presidents, and corporate directors sat around a massive mahogany conference table, their eyes fixed on the head of the table.
Elena Vázquez sat in the center seat—not elevated on a pedestal, but perfectly integrated into the circle. She wore a simple charcoal blazer over her cream linen dress, her hair still pinned back in its practical tortoiseshell clip. There were no flashy jewels, no designer logos, and no pretense.
She placed her hands flat on the mahogany surface, looking around the room at every single person present.
"The aviation industry is built on physics, engineering, and fuel," Elena began, her voice carrying clear, resonant authority across the silent room. "But a company's survival is built on something far simpler: how we treat one another when we think no one important is watching."
She paused, letting her gaze sweep over the executives—some of whom shifted uncomfortably in their leather chairs, remembering the fate of Alejandro Martínez echoing across the corporate grapevine since sunrise.
"Effective today," Elena continued calmly, "every operating procedure in our global network is being rewritten. We are no longer measuring success solely by profit margins and on-time departures. We are measuring it by dignity, respect, and character. If anyone in this room, or in any uniform across our fleet, forgets that basic truth, they will find themselves looking for work elsewhere before the sun sets."
She stood up. The entire boardroom rose instantly in absolute, synchronized unison, remaining standing in reverent silence until she walked out of the double glass doors.
Later that evening, standing on the private wrap-around terrace of her penthouse apartment overlooking Central Park, Elena watched the city lights flicker into life across the sprawling urban landscape.
The wind was cool, carrying the crisp scent of autumn through the darkening air. She closed her eyes for a moment, feeling the steady beat of her own heart—grounded, peaceful, and completely at home in her own skin.
Far below, across the Atlantic, Flight IB6251 was already pushing back from the gate in Madrid, its new captain performing his pre-flight checks with quiet professionalism, while passengers settled into their seats, completely unaware of the invisible history that had reshaped the very skies above them.

Elena opened her eyes, looked up at the vast, infinite expanse of the evening sky, and smiled.
The journey was just beginning.
