Chapter 5 - Facing the Fallout

Over the next four days, the pressure from Brandon's camp escalated from whispered rumors to aggressive harassment.

Since I had blocked his number, Brandon resorted to sending couriers to my apartment with certified letters demanding I return his ring, sign a confidentiality agreement regarding the "wedding cancellation incident," and issue a public apology for assaulting Brianna. His father, Richard, even showed up in the apartment building lobby twice, cornering the front desk security guard and demanding to know where I was hiding.

I ignored every single attempt at intimidation. Marcus had already secured a temporary restraining order against Brandon, Richard, and Waylon, ensuring that any further harassment at my home would result in immediate arrest.

By Thursday evening, the psychological toll on Brandon's side must have been immense. Their bank accounts were frozen, their credit cards were declining at restaurants and gas stations, Brianna's salon was padlocked by state tax authorities, and they had no idea why their financial world was suddenly collapsing around them. They assumed it was just bad luck—or perhaps lingering anger from my end.

They had no idea that Marcus Vance was systematically dissecting their entire empire piece by piece.

On Friday afternoon, I stood in front of the full-length mirror in my bedroom, preparing for the Crystal Gala.

For the occasion, I didn't wear a white dress. I wore a stunning, floor-length midnight-blue evening gown from Versace, cut with sharp, architectural lines that hugged my silhouette with quiet elegance. It wasn't soft; it was armor. My dark hair, styled in a sleek, immaculate high ponytail, cascaded down my back. I applied bold crimson lipstick, my reflection staring back at me with eyes devoid of fear, hesitation, or sorrow.

Mom stood behind me, gently fastening a pair of diamond-and-sapphire drop earrings that had belonged to my grandmother.

"You look breathtaking, Naomi," she whispered, her eyes shining with unshed tears. "Your father would be so proud of the woman you've become."

"Thank you, Mom," I said, turning to hug her tightly. "Are you ready for tonight?"

"More than ready," she smiled fiercely.

At 7:30 PM sharp, a sleek black town car dispatched by Marcus waited for us outside the apartment building. We stepped inside, heading straight toward the Fairmont Hotel downtown, where San Jose's highest-ranking corporate titans, politicians, and socialites were gathering beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.

Little did they know, the most explosive night of their lives was about to begin.
