Chapter 7 - The Battle on the Concrete

BANG! BANG! BANG!
Gunfire erupted through the warehouse like thunder!
Liam and Connor’s guards instantly drew their weapons, taking cover behind concrete pillars and firing up at the catwalks!
"Sadie! Get down!" Connor roared, spinning his wheelchair around to cover me!
A bullet struck the concrete near my feet, showering sparks and debris! I fell to my knees on the muddy ground, clutching my belly in utter terror!
Declan’s men flooded the main floor, firing wildly!
During the chaos, a heavy iron crane hook hanging from the rusted ceiling was triggered by a rogue bullet, striking the side of Connor’s wheelchair with tremendous force!
The heavy metal frame flipped sideways!
Connor was thrown violently from his chair, slamming hard onto the muddy, rain-slicked concrete floor!
"CONNOR!" I shrieked, ignoring the gunfire and crawling across the wet ground toward him!
His wheelchair lay completely smashed six feet away, its wheels bent and useless.
Connor lay on his side in the mud, his white shirt splattered with dirt and water, his chest heaving as he fought for breath.
I reached him, dropping to my knees beside him, my red dress soaking in the mud as I grabbed his broad shoulders.
"Connor! Are you okay?! Please, answer me!" I sobbed, tears streaming down my mud-stained cheeks.

Declan’s heavy footsteps approached through the gloom. He stepped out from behind a concrete pillar, holding a dark pistol, a cruel, triumphant grin plastered across his face.
"Look at you, Connor," Declan sneered, pointing the gun directly at Connor’s head. "The great raven of Boston... writhing in the dirt like a worm. You can't even stand up to die like a man."
