Chapter 10 - A New Horizon

Six months later, the spring wildflowers of Texas were in full bloom, splashing the highways and hillsides with vibrant shades of bluebonnets and Indian paintbrushes.

Clara stood by the open French doors leading out to the back patio, wearing comfortable running shoes and leaning lightly on the wooden frame. With a deep, confident breath, she took a steady step forward, crossing the threshold entirely under her own power.
Her legs were strong, healed, and carrying her forward into a future she had fought hard to reclaim.
Marcus stepped out onto the patio behind her, carrying two glasses of iced tea. He watched her walk across the stone pavers with a smile of quiet pride that reached all the way to his eyes.
“How does it feel?” Marcus asked, handing her a glass.
Clara took the glass, looked out across the sunlit yard where the green grass swayed gently in the breeze, and smiled.
“It feels like breathing for the first time,” she said softly.

Marcus raised his glass in a silent toast. Clara clinked hers against his, the clear, ringing sound echoing softly in the warm Texas air, sealing the dawn of a brand-new chapter where they were finally, truly free.
