Chapter 10 - The Masterpiece

A year after the night of the rain and the dog's dinner, Sarah hosted a small dinner party in her condo.

It wasn't a mandatory family gathering or an obligation to keep the peace. It was a celebration of her closest friends from the architectural firm—colleagues who respected her intellect, laughed at her dry jokes, and knew how to respect a boundary.

The kitchen island was piled high with artisan cheeses, fresh fruit, and a magnificent prime rib roast that Sarah had prepared herself, wrapped securely with a bright red ribbon and a note reading: “Sarah’s dinner—hands off!” written in bold, playful lettering.

Her friends laughed when she pointed to the note, raising their glasses in a toast.

“To Sarah,” her colleague Linh said, standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows as the golden sunset washed over the room. “To brilliant designs, unbreakable structures, and never settling for less than you deserve.”

“To unbreakable structures,” Sarah echoed, clinking her glass against Linh’s.

Later that evening, after the guests had gone and the apartment had settled back into its peaceful, serene quiet, Sarah walked out onto the balcony.

The city hummed below her, alive and vibrant. The rain was falling again—a gentle, rhythmic drizzle that tapped softly against the glass.

She stood there in her comfortable clothes, wrapped in a soft cardigan, holding a cup of hot tea. She looked back through the open glass doors into her living room, her kitchen, her studio.

Every single piece of furniture, every beam of light, every inch of floor space belonged entirely to her.

She had built it from the ground up, brick by brick, foundation by foundation. And this time, the doors were locked, the keys were hers, and nobody would ever take her dinner away again.
