Chapter 10 - A New Dawn in Greenwich

Two months later, the winter snow had begun to blanket the sprawling lawns of the Greenwich estate, turning the massive stone walls and manicured gardens into a quiet, glittering wonderland.

Inside the grand foyer of the mansion, the heavy iron front doors stood unlocked for the first time since I had bought the property.

The past was no longer something to be feared, locked away, or hidden behind armed guards and non-disclosure agreements. It was a part of us now—integrated, acknowledged, and laid to rest alongside Clara beneath a quiet stone marker in the estate’s private memorial garden.

I stood near the living room fireplace, holding a cup of coffee while watching the morning light filter through the frost-patterned windows.

Victoria walked in from the kitchen, carrying a tray of warm pastries, her face glowing with a quiet, resilient happiness that I hadn't seen in years.

From down the long hallway came the sound that still made my chest ache with overwhelming gratitude.

“Mom! Look what I built!”

Emily came running around the corner, her blonde hair bouncing, holding a towering Lego castle in her hands. She stopped right in front of Victoria, smiling brightly up at her mother.

Victoria dropped to her knees, laughing as she hugged Emily tightly, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “That’s the biggest castle you’ve ever built, sweetheart! Should we put it in the living room so Daddy can see it?”

“Yes!” Emily chirped, her voice clear, musical, and completely unburdened by the silence that had once imprisoned her.

She turned her head, catching my eye across the room. Her smile widened, mirroring the exact same curve of my own lips.

She ran across the Persian rug straight toward me, throwing her arms around my leg and hugging it tight.

I set my coffee mug down on the side table, dropped down onto one knee, and wrapped my arms around my daughter, lifting her up into the air as she giggled.

Victoria walked over, joining us in the circle of sunlight pouring through the window, resting her hand gently on my shoulder.

The fortress in Greenwich was no longer a prison designed to keep the world out. It was a home—built on truth, protected by love, and anchored by a family that could finally speak without fear.
